Hello, I am a software engineer, game developer and social entrepreneur with 20+ years experience making games, experiences and social impact projects. I build things for three reasons: Creative Expression, Love and Social Good.
In this project I actively prioritise building experiences with real human connection and experience, promoting compassion, creativity, freedom of choice and having fun.
What is explicitly NOT AI
- The books are written by players, myself or my narrative director.
- In-game chat: if you tag @dev you'll either hear directly from me, or not at all. Same on Discord.
- The player mobs are bot behaviour run by code, not AI. They are a complex system of behaviours that involve 0% machine learning or LLMs.
- I am not training LLM, AI or Machine Learning with your data or data from the game.
- Artwork. I made the artwork myself.
- The naming system: names are generated from a program, not AI.
- The stories in the passenger log are NOT AI generated.
- No AI is run on your machine.
Where is AI currently used in the game?
- Content reviewing: to review the books and filter out harmful content. Frankly, not a job I'd want humans to have without machines looking first.
- Translations. There is a human review system run by players to improve quality.
- Generating the change logs for updates on GitHub (see #minor-updates on Discord).
- Coding and design assistance. I am a software engineer with 20+ years experience coding video games.
- Warnings, error messages and similar technical text content: predefined, with no AI run on your machine.
Which AI
I choose Anthropic as the most moral choice of AI. This is based on decisions I've seen their leadership make, particularly around their stances on safeguards and on preventing use in weaponry and government surveillance.
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy my game.
